Metro Manila is home to numerous wholesale and retail shopping centers, and if you ask locals for recommendations, they will most likely tell you about Greenhills Shopping Center. It is located in San Juan City, one of the cities that make up Metro Manila.
The shopping center that consists of separate buildings which are interconnected by bridges and pathways, giving it an indoor-outdoor feel. Some of the buildings include establishments like The Promenade, V-Mall, Theater Mall, Shoppesville and The Jewellery which provide buyers a hodgepodge of shopping and lifestyle options from restaurants and fast food chains, grocery stores, department stores, boutiques and shops.
What ultimately makes Greenhills Shopping Center a mecca for wholesale and retail buyers is the Tiangge, which is named after a rather endearing local term that connotes a bazaar or flea market. While still located inside the shopping complex, the Tiangge is a world of its own. Within, you will find a tight grid work of stalls and booths which sell a wide range of discounted dry items. These are just some of the products that you can find there:
- Locally made clothes, shoes and
- Foreign manufactured knock offs (or class As) of luxury brands
- Factory overruns of ready to wear items (rejects or excess production of famous clothing brands)
- Jewelry and accessories
- Household products
You are bound to find something that you like in the Tiangge. Indeed, you’ll even find winter boots and coats, even when it doesn’t snow in the Philippines.
Most booths are grouped together, so one area of the tiangge may be focused on bags (many of them designer knock-offs that look completely like the real thing), and an area may be dedicated to household items.
It is helpful to go around and window shop first, even though you will find that most booths sell exactly the same things and are priced similarly. While most stalls have similar prices, the key to getting lower prices is always in the haggling. Most sellers will give you a discount or bulk price if you buy three or more items, but it doesn’t hurt to haggle and ask for a discount for even one item.
Why Greenhills Tiangge?
While there are other tiangges in Metro Manila like Divisoria and Baclaran which have even cheaper bargains, Greenhills is still a go-to shopping mecca for locals and tourists alike. This is because its prices are still lower than what you can find in malls. Being a mid-upscale bargain center, it is more accessible, convenient, organized and is safer than other places. It is fully air-conditioned, too.
It is also connected to other parts of the complex such as the Theater Mall, Shoppesville and V-Mall. The complex also has several parking areas, so you do not have to worry about looking for a space to park at the streets. As it is part of a bigger shopping complex, you can find options for food and recreation or you can spend an afternoon in one of their many beauty and wellness centers if you want to take a break from all the purchasing. It also features a small park as well as a Catholic chapel and a Muslim Prayer Room.
